About Jacquelin

Helping others bring their stories into the world is deeply personal to me. My passion for storytelling began in childhood, thanks to my mom, who taught me the power of the written word and supported me through the unique challenges I faced as a writer.

I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus at the age of four—an illness that typically doesn’t appear until after puberty. Over time, I was also diagnosed with Chiari Malformation Type 1, complex ADHD, persistent depressive disorder, social anxiety, and dyslexia—most of which stem from chronic illness, chronic pain, and the brain fog they bring. These challenges shaped the way I learned and communicated.

Because of my health, I was homeschooled from kindergarten through high school. My mom—my primary teacher—helped me discover creative tools, tricks, and resources to support my learning. She nurtured in me a love for both reading and writing, which carried me through even the hardest days.

When I decided to pursue editing professionally, I considered corporate paths but quickly realized they wouldn’t allow me to work the way I wanted to: closely and personally with the people I help. I didn’t want to be just another editor on a team—I wanted to be the kind of mentor my mom was for me.

That’s when I found freelance editing. The one-on-one connection and flexibility fit exactly what I envisioned. And so, Mountain Girl Editing and Coaching was born.

“Mountain Girl” has been my online name since I was thirteen, inspired by growing up in a small mountain lake community in the Southern Sierra Nevadas of California. It’s a part of my identity—just like “MG” or “Mountie,” a nickname I took from a character in one of my favorite books, Christy by Catherine Marshall.

Through Mountain Girl Editing and Coaching, I help people like me—those who have a story to tell but aren’t sure how to begin—bring their words to life. My mission is to offer the same understanding, encouragement, and hope that was given to me. I want others to find joy in writing and reading, no matter what obstacles they face.

I’ve developed a unique method that blends editing and coaching, modeled after what worked for me growing up. My goal isn’t just to help you tell one story—but to empower you to tell many.
